GETTING TO THE SHETLAND ISLES

For thousands of years people have, of necessity, travelled to and from Shetland by sea. Many still favour this route as it is safe and reliable and of course you can bring your own vehicle if you wish.

There is a certain magic about arriving in Shetland on the ferry from Aberdeen, the first sight of Fair Isle, passing Sumburgh Head and the island of Mousa, and outstanding views of the rugged coastline.

Sumburgh is Scotland's fourth busiest airport and there are daily flights from several Scottish airports, including Orkney, plus a direct link via Aberdeen to many other airports in the UK. Visitors from all over Britain and Europe can easily reach Shetland.

British Airways operate a very regular service, with several flights most days, linking Shetland with Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow, and further afield.
