Welcome to Furso Holiday Cottage in the heart of the Orkney Islands. Furso is a langhouse which has been in the Flett family for several centuries. Situated in the centre of the parish of Harray, Furso offers a peaceful retreat with beautiful views over farmland towards the Hoy Hills and the Harray Loch.

As Furso is centrally located it is an ideal base for exploring Orkneys many archaeological sites and antiquities. Furso is also very close to many of the abundant fishing lochs on the Orkney mainland.

The Flett family have lived in Furso since at least the 17th century. It was still used as a family home until the 1960's and as a summer retreat until the late 1980's despite not having any electricity or mains water.

Recently, the house has been sympathetically renovated by the Flett family, keeping the original character and many original details of the building such as flagstone floors and box beds, but including the comforts of the 21st century, making your stay here a truly unique experience.

Furso has 2 bedrooms. One has a cast iron double bed, the other has a box bed. There is also a box bed in the sitting room.

Each box bed can sleep 2 people and we can provide extra fold out spring beds if required. We can also provide a cot for babies.

The sitting room itself has the original open fire which will be cleaned and ready for use if you wish. We provide paper, wood and peats for you to help yourself to. The fire still has the original crane over it, which was used for hanging cooking pots over the hot flames.

As well as the fire, heat is provided via underfloor heating throughout the house and extra electric heaters are provided.

There is a television and a digital box in the living room.

The kitchen is fully equiped with an electric cooker, fridge, washing machine, microwave and utensils.

We usually allow pets at Furso. We have a large garden for dogs to run around in but we ask that you clean up after your pets. Please mention your pets when booking.
