PORT MOR CAMPSITE

The Port Mòr Centre is situtated just outside of Port Charlotte on Islay and was opened in May 2007. It is a community project and aims to provide many and varied facilities to both visitors to Islay and residents alike. The building is carbon neutral and uses a 6KW wind turbine to generate electricity, with a ground source heating system to provide heating and solar panels to provide hot water. Insulation of the building is to a very high standard.

The Centre features a café and a spacious seating area with spectacular views across the Lochindaal. Also available is Internet access, meeting rooms with video conferencing facilities and a campsite with toilets, showers and laundry facilities. In addition, a modern and well-specified children's play park is situated right next to the Centre.  

The campsite at Port Mòr is available all year round for both tents and camper vans. The centre itself has a wide range of facilities for campers such as toilets (including disabled toilets), showers, laundry, ironing, a café and Internet access. Ten Electrical hook-ups are available. Currently there are no water connections for caravans or camper vans but these will be installed later this year. The charge for using the campsite is £8.00 per person per night or £4.00 for children up to 12 years old. Children up to 5yrs old free. Payment is by cheque or cash only. The campsite is also dog friendly at no extra charge.

The Port Mòr Centre is located close to Port Charlotte, where the Port Charlotte Hotel and the Lochindaal Hotel are located. Both hotels feature a bar and serve meals made with local produce. Amenities also include a Post Office with a shop, a Wildlife Centre and the Museum of Islay Life, all of which are an easy 10 minutes walk from the campsite.

The main hall features a wide-screen plasma television with access to Sky, a DVD player and a public address system with a wireless microphone. In addition, there is also a smaller television and DVD player for use in the main hall.

The main hall can be booked for functions or events such as ceilidhs, weddings etc, prices available on request. There is a small bar area that can be licensed for use on such occasions.

The Port Mòr Centre also features excellent business facilities with a meeting room for up to 10 attendees and a Sony IP (not ISDN) videoconferencing system and wireless Internet access. The meeting room can also be booked for meetings etc.

The Port Mòr Centre has a broadband Internet connection and a wireless network. You can hire a Dell laptop for only £2.00 an hour or, subject to terms and conditions, even use your own computer.
