The Craigard Hotel is situated on the hillside directly above the small town of Castlebay, with magnificent views over Kisimul Castle and beyond to the island of Vatersay. Parking is alongside the hotel, so guests need not climb long flights of steps to reach this amazing vantage point!

The unique beach airport of Barra is about six miles away and the ferry terminal, shops and township centre are all within a quarter mile.

Convenience and relaxation are key to an enjoyable stay. All of our bedrooms are well equipped with all the facilities you expect in a 3-star hotel and because the hotel is fairly small, you won’t be traipsing along endless corridors, when it’s time for bed.

We’ve provided comfortable beds, tasteful decor, adequate wardrobe space, tea and coffee making, TV, radio/alarm and phone - and several rooms enjoy panoramic sea-views.

All rooms have en-suite shower and WC - some have bath, too. We also make sure there’s a good supply nice, fluffy, white towels.

In addition to comfortable bedrooms, The Craigard offers a spacious restaurant. It’s popular with local residents (always a good sign) and the menu features fresh local cuisine, including fresh local seafood. Try hand-dived scallops or creel caught lobster, which are reckoned to be much better tasting than trawled shellfish. Catch of the day gives you the opportunity to enjoy freshly landed fish - perhaps to sample succulent local monkfish, herring or mackerel.

There is a choice of two well stocked bars and the terrace, with its panoramic views, is a very pleasant place to soak up the warmth on a good summer’s day, or to see a spectacular sunset.

Barra people have a reputation for their hospitality and enjoyment of life - don’t be surprised when local folk pass the time of day with you and wish you a pleasant stay on the island. The lifestyle here is very relaxed and everyone has time to enjoy each other’s company.
